The Best Christmas Cookie Recipe

This time of year, a lot of our holiday traditions are centered around baking. Especially in this social media era where people on Pinterest and Tik Tok make it look so easy. All of us have had those moments we were scrolling along and thought, “Oh, I can totally make that”.

Even if it turns out you’re not going to be The Next Great Baker, you’ll still love the experience with your favorite people.  This week we thought we’d share one of our favorite recipes to make this time of year.

Cutout Sugar Cookies

1/3 cup butter

1/3 cup shortening

2 cups flour

1 egg

¾ cup sugar

1 tablespoon milk

1teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla

A dash of salt

With an electric mixer beat butter and shortening together until combined. Add 1 cup of the flour, the egg, sugar, milk, baking powder, vanilla, and salt. Mix until completely combined. Turn your mixer on and slowly add in the remaining cup of flour as you mix. Divide the dough in half, roll it into two balls and chill in the fridge for 3 hours. When the time has passed, you will have the perfect dough to roll out and cut Christmas cookies from. If you decide to let the dough chill longer than 3 hours you may need to add in a little water as you roll it out.

Once you have cut all the shapes you want out put them on a greased baking sheet in a 375 degree oven for 7 minutes.

Once your cookies have cooled completely on a cooling rack you can ice them and decorate however you’d like. To make your own icing: mix together 1cup powdered sugar, 1Tablespoon of milk (give or take depending on how thick you want it) , and ¼ teaspoon vanilla.  You can add a little food coloring, or keep them white and decorate with Christmas sprinkles.

That’s it! A simple sugar cookie recipe your family will love that’s easy enough you can make it with anyone!
